A Stone bridge of 3 arches over the Teviot and in the town of Hawick, repaired by the County.
Though of unascertained date, it bears marks of very high antiquity - some suppose that of the 10th or 11th Centy [Century]. A series of narrow abutments on the sides of the main arch rise from the water-course run along till they meet in the centre and form a semicircle - presenting a rude approximation to the architectural adornings on the porticus of ancient Cathedrals. |
