Ednam contracted from Edenham, signifies a Hamlet in the river Eden, and is descriptive of the Situation of the Village - In its form it approaches to a square; its greatest length being about 3 1/4 miles, and to its greatest breadth about 3 miles - It is bounded on the North & North East by Eccles in Berwickshire, on the N [North] West, by Stitchill; on the S.W. [South West] and South, by Nenthorn & Kelso, and on the S. [South] East by Sprouston -
Ednam hill, is the only one in the parish, shelters the Village on the East - It rises to no great height, being arable to the top, but commands a very extensive view of the surrounding country -
Except the Tweed, which forms the S. [South] Eastern boundary of the parish and divides it from Sprouston Parish, the "Eden" is the only stream belonging to Ednam - |

The parish Church the only place of worship, is conviently situated being in the Village, and not not more than two miles from any house therein. It was built in the year 1800, is in good repair, and offers accommodation for about 260 persons -
The Glebe consists of 5 Scotch Acres, and is let for £13.0.0 per annum -
The Stipend is paid in money, and together with the allowance for communion elements, amounts to £158.6.8.; £111.2.2. being payable from the land, and £47.4.6. received from the exchequer - |

The popular and really remotest source of the Tweed is a paltry fountain called Tweed's-Well, a little above the farm house of Tweedshaws, and at the foot of a hill named Tweed's-Cross, on the South Western boundary of the parish of Tweedsmuir, Peeblesshire - about 1500 feet above the level of the sea -
