015.08 This name applies to the site of an ancient tower, reported to have been once the residence of Hepburn Earl of Bothwell A few stones level with the surface are all that now remains to mark the site. It was originally surrounded by a marsh and only accesible at one point by a causeway. It was destroyed by a party of English on the 30th of June 1523, headed by Thomas Lord Dacre, after which it was rebuilt, and again destroyed by the Earl of Sussex in 1570.

015.08 A dwelling house three stories high, with garden, outoffices, Hinds cottage and large arable farm attached. It is the property of His Grace the Duke of Buccleuch, and it derives its name from its proximity to the site of the ancient Tower so named.
