Site of TAIN CASTLE | Tain Castle (Site of) | Mr. G.T. Munro E.H.M. Matheson esq. William Ross esq. Mr. John Rose |
041 | Tradition says, this Castle was last occupied by the Innes family, in the sixteenth century the family of Innes acquired the estate of Plaids and Bailiary of Tain from the McCulloch of Plaids, and this Castle was probably, therefore, the official residence of the hereditary Bailie. The last trace of it was removed fifty years ago. It was supposed to have been a very ancient erection, but previous to the sixteenth century there is no account. |
