CAIRN [Redcastle] | Cairn | Mr. T. Fraser Mr. G. Tuach Mr. J. Tuach |
100 | Applied to a cairn of stones situated about twenty four chains south of Redcastle in the Beauly Firth. It is not known what the shape or dimensions of this cairn may have been, and it would be difficult to determine at present as nothing now remains but a shapeless mass of stones which are much worn by the action of the water for ages past. It is supposed by some of the inhabitants of the surrounding district that the cairn had been erected to mark the grave of some Danish warrior of note who had fallen in battle somewhere near Redcastle. This is of course only supposition, and therefore cannot be relied upon. |
