065 | A small village situated on the public road between Dingwall and Tain, six miles from the former place and four from the village of Alness. It contains six streets viz- Balcony, Cambden, Livera, Hermitage, Assynt, and Chapel Streets; one Inn, a Post Office and the F.C. [Free Church] School. "There is one village called Evantown containing about 100 houses, and a population of about 500. This village which had no existence thirty years ago, is built upon a waste piece of land, and differs from all others in the country, by its regular and neat appearance."
