A small sound between the north west end of Bhernera Bheag, and Eilean Fir Chor, the fish caught in this sound are lobsters, crabs cod and ling and a few codlings, this sound is deep and safe but is very much exposed to the northerly and westerly winds. |

It is about a mile in length and its greatest breadth is about 1/4 of a mile, it is one of the safest and most excellent harbours on this shore, and indeed it is the only harbourage from Scarp Island to Stornoway, it affords every facility for anchorage, and is resorted to by all the cod and ling fishing vessels, in case of storms being at sea, as they can go in and out of it with any wind, the prevailing winds in it are North, North West, and South, and the rise and fall of tides are from 10 to 14 feet. |

A large Island in loch roag which is about 3/4 of a mile from East to west and about 1/2 a mile from north to south and around which are several small rocks which make it very dangerous for navigators. It is one of the best Islands in Lewis the greater portion of it consists of good pasture for sheep and Black Cattle
There were 12 families living on it at some period not very remote, there is a grave yard on the eastern end of it which is not enclosed, there is also a Fish House on its southern side which is occupied by the Stornoway Merchants for the purpose of Curing Cod and Ling. |

A long, low neck of land, at the Eastern entrance of Caolas Barnery, it lies N & S and appears to have been formerly an island, there is the site of a building on its northern end, there are a few stones at the foundation still visible at the south east of what appears to have been the building, there are also a few scattered stones around the place for the most part buried in the soil. Tradition is entirely silent respecting its, use, or the date of its erection but is generally conjectured that it was built about the year 1240 either by the invading Dane or Native built as a place of defence. |
