011 | [situation] On the western side of the plan, 80 chains W.N.W. [West North West] of the letter U in Uig parish name and half a mile N.W [North West] of Bereasaigh Island. An island, situated at the mouth of Loch Roag, it is remakable for its height, bold and rugged appearance, it is very difficult of ascent.it is about 200 feet high and its summit is about 5 chains wide. It produces a sufficiency of pasture to feed two sheep during the summer season, though the sea frequently washes over it in the winter. a gentle easterly breeze is the most favourable wind for landing on it, while at any time is a matter of great difficulty. |
