009 | [Situation] In the north Eastern corner of the plan E. [East] of the parish boundary, 200 chains N. E. [North East] by E. [East] of Tom Sanndabhat. A very large and prominent hill composed of moss - on its summit is a Trigl. [Trigonometrical] Station This hill forms a conspicuous feature in the Northern district of Lewis, and the boundary between Barvas and Stornoway passes at its Western base. Tradition says that there was a chief of the Name of Matheson killed on its Top from which circumstances it is supposed to have derived its name. |
