005 | [Situation] Near the Sea Coast in the N.W. [North West] section of the plan, 30 chains N. [North] of Siadeir Uachdrach village. A small village, on the left of the road from Stornoway to Ness; about 16 miles from the former, and about 11 miles from the latter. It contains about 27 families who derive their chief support from the produce of the land, which is tolerably good. The houses are built of peat-moss, and lined with stone, and thatched. This village has been larger than it is at present, some of the people having emigrated; others have removed to a new portion lately reclaimed. There is very little fishing carried on here, the coast being very rough. |
