The Steeple which formerly formed a part of the Ancient Prison and Courthouse, Stands at the West Side, at the Corner of Moss Street, and is a great Ornament to this Part of the town, presenting a most imposing appearance on approaching it from the east, opposite to the Steeple and on the East Side, are the Coffee Room Buildings, a splendid row of three Storey high houses which have been much and justly admired, And includes in them a very extensive and Comfortable reading Room:- On Market days the Concourse of People in this part of the town is Almost incredible, and presents to the Stranger a very interesting, Although Sometimes jostling Scene. This place is also the Principal resort for the Working Class, and idlers of the Town, where they Congregate largely on the evenings._ |
