012.13 An elegant Structure built in a beautiful Style of Architecture, Situated on the most elevated Part of the town at Oakshawhead, and forms one of the chief Architectural beauties of Paisley; the building is Surmounted by a large dome, the base of which being Surrounded by a Substantial but neat balcony from which a most extensive range of view is obtained, Goatfell in the Island of Arran, the lofty Benlomand and other Prominent and distant Objects can be distinctly Seen; The building itself from its Size, Situation and elevation, Attracts the eye for many miles round; it is Quadrangular, with four fronts, and Consists of four divisions or Class Rooms, which are both lofty, Spacious and elegantly furnished, each under a Separate master and an Assistant, the Principal entrance for visitors is facing Oakshaw Street, and opens into a large Vestibule, Adjoining the latter is a large and Commodious hall where the Trustees to the Institution meet Occasionally for arranging matters; Adjoining and North West of the Building is a very extensive Playground, Containing upwards of three Acres, where the Scholars are instructed in all Kinds of Gymnastics and other Games, etc Was erected in 1851 & 2 at an expense of £10,000, Out of a legacy of £23,000 left by a Merchant of Paisley whose name is perpetuated, for the Purpose of erecting and Endowing an Institution for the "educating, Clothing
