007.05 | An agricultural Village in rapid decay, mainly owing to the enlargement of farms and consequent reduction of the population. Nearly half the houses are either roofless or untenanted; the remainder are very old and in bad condition and inhabited mostly by the very poorest of persons. The population number about 300. A cattle show takes place here twice in three years. There are three places of worship in the village, formerly there were four. The parish formerly mentained, according to the "Statistical Account" Six Schools, these have dwindled to two. One is the Parochial School, the other a voluntary school at Syde. |
