North from Clochodrick, on the other side of the hills, stands an old narrow castle, anciently the residence of the Knoxes. Old Statistical Account.

The other (castle) on the north west; on the lands of Penneld, is said to be built by one of the name of Haic; but he being killed in the interim, it was never finished. Old Statistical Acct [Account].
