011.02 The ruins or remains of an old castle, the ancient residence of the Knoxes; Situated on an eminence overlooking the ""Town of the "Bridge of Weir", on the north-east side. The walls at present standing are from 15 to 20 feet high but are much worn through time; parts of the foundations of the remainder of the building are still vissible.

"Southwest from Denzeltoun lies the castle and Barony of Ranfurly, the seat
and designation of an ancient family of the name of Knox. But that what is said of the
antiquity of the family of Ranfurly, may not be received without a document, you
find in the Registers of the Abby of Pasly, frequent mention made of the Knoxs; in the
reigns of Alexander II. and III. as witnesses to the charters of the Abbacy."
