007.11 The village of Houston is situated near the South-eastern part of the parish, North and South of Houston Burn, and on the road between Greenock and Paisley. About 70 years ago, when the old Mansion House of Houston was demolished by Mr Macrae, the stones belonging to the building were used for building the New Town, which was planned about that time, and feued for building. Since that period the village has increased in size. It chiefly consists of two streets, the houses on each side of which are regular and have a Substantial Appearance. The Old Village of Houston Stood near the Parish Church; was demolished [] after the New one was finished. In the village are 3 places of Worship, 3 Schools, 1 Hall, and Post Office, 1 Inn, and 2 Public Houses. A cattle fair is held in the Month of May. The population about
