The parish of Port Glasgow is but of modern origin, and small extent. It was, formerly, comprehended, in the extensive parish of Kilmacolm. It is bounded on the N. [North] by the Firth of Clyde, on the east and south by Kilmacolm and on the west by Greenock. The parish is nearly square in form, comprising little more than a square mile in Area. Port Glasgow is a parliamentary Borough in this parish. There are not many Antiquities in the parish. No part of the parish is detached, nor is there a detached portion of any other parish within it. |
