142 | In the centre of High Street is an ancient stone cross, standing in the middle of an octagonal shaped bench of stone steps, each about nine inches apart; from the upper step, which is about four feet above the level of the street, rises the cross, which is of a square form and about twelve feet high, each arm being only about six inches long. It has no inscription on it, and tradition is silent as to the state of its erection. |
