[Notes below Standing Stone:]
The standing stone in front of the
house of the same name is the remains
of a Druidical Circle or Temple. The Revd. [Reverend] Mr.
Haldane says that 20 stones constituted
this circle & a large one stood in the centre,
he supposed the one now standing was the
centre one.
"Above the river, southeast from the village, in a beautiful
situation, is a Druidical temple, much defaced, and many
of the stones carried off. The farm upon which it has been
built is called Standing Stones."
