Supposed Site of the CASTLE OF PERTH Supposed Site of The Castle of Perth Mr Marshall 098 Like all other old towns in Scotland there was a Strong Castle in Perth at a very early period, which was the Royal residence during the ages that the City had the preeminence of being the metropolis of the Scottish Kingdom. The earliest notice of the Castle in history which the writer of this has been able to trace is that of its partial demolition by a great flood in the river Tay which happened in 1210, the particulars of which are minutely recorded in Fordun's Scotichromcon. The King William the Lion and family resided here at the time and his infant son with the nurse and 14 others of the royal household lost their lives.
