098 [Situation] at the extreme NE [North East] corner of the Coal Shore
The site of this tower is pointed out as being situated at the southeast corner of the promenade in front of the County Buildings It was a Strong building and was the termination of the City wall at the river. The gardens attached to the Earl of Gowries Palace was within the City Wall at this place. When and by whom it was built are unknown
"The Monks tower - stood till about 50 years ago. When erected is a matter of dispute some supposing it to have been built by General Monk one of Cromwell's Commanders but we find it mentioned long ere this person came to Scotland. In the muses Horenodie written 30 years before the army of Commonwealth came to Perth there is a lengthened description of it. It was situated at the SE [South East] corner of the promenade in front of the County buildings. It was an oblong form and was deemed a place of strength."
