It was founded by Royal Charter dated 9th. Aug. [August] 1569 during the minority of James VI of Scot. [Scotland] who granted another Charter dated 29th. July 1587, both of which were confirmed by act of Parliament dated 5th. June 1592. Numerous lands & properties in & around Perth were subsequently bequeathed by various persons to this Institution from which it now derives large revenues. It supports & educates about [--] Children of both sexes, & affords relief to numerous aged & infirm persons in Perth. The Hospital was erected in 1598, but the present building (on the site of the old one) was not erected till 1752. |
