097 The following description of this tree is taken from "The Topographical Statistical and Historical Gazetteer of Scotland," Vol. [Volume] 2 page 354: - "The Bell-Tree, an ash in the Churchyard, supposed to be co-eval with the earliest religious establishment in the parish, and measuring 20 feet in girth 3½ feet from the ground." At one time the church bell was hung on this tree - from which circumstance it derives its name.
