Sir W.D. Stewart Mr. John Harris Revd. [Reverend] Daniel McBride Dunkeld, its Straths & Glens Fullarton's Gazetteer New Statistical Acct. [Account] |
062 | This name is applied to a small ovalshaped hill, having a gradual slope all round. Tradition says that law courts were held here in ancient times, from which circumstance it takes its name. It is a natural feature. Property of Sir W.D. Stewart, Bart. [Baronet], Murthly Castle. "A little to the south-west of that house is a round mound, bearing th traces of a rude fortification. It has been known from time immemorial by the names of Court Hill and Duncan's Hill, and it is said to have been occasionally occupied by the unfortunate King Duncan. Here a noble oak is shewn which served as a Gallows for the execution of those condemned at the Regality Courts, held on this hill. Dunkeld, its Straths & Glens |
