131 A small village situated about twelve miles from Stirling, containing about 150 inhabitants. The houses are generally two storeys, slated, and in good repair. It contains a school, Public House, and Corn Mill the motive power of which is water. Its machinery is not adapted for the finer Kinds of flour. Forty years ago there was a very large distillery in operation here, but it is now in ruins. Those of the old Malt Barns &c, which are yet in tolerable repair, are used as the out-offices of a farmsteading in the village. Property principally of the Trustees of the late James Stirling Esqr.
