James VI, in the course of his visits to Scotland in 1617, spent upwards of a week at Kinnaird Castle, enjoying his favourite sports of the field. From the Volume entitiled The Muses, Welcome, which contains the poetical addresses presented to him during his perambulations, it appears that the King arrived at Kinnaird on the 22nd of May, and left it for Dundee on the 30th. There were two poems addressed to James at this ancient seat; one in Latin, entitled Nemo, by Joannes Leachaus; the other in English by Alexander Craig of Ease Craig, occupying no less than five pages.
Extracts from the English poem.

Of fowls and beast a prey of every Kind.
For morning both and evening flight each day
Each hawk thou hast shall have her native prey;
