098 | [Situation] About ¾ mile E. [East] from Kinnoull Hill A large & very handsome mansion with an estate pleasure grounds & offices attached. It is the family Mansion of the Rt. Hon. [Right Honourable] Lord Gray. The estate of Kinfauns was presented by Robert the Bruce to Sir Thomas Charteris, a French Knight, for espousing the cause of the Scotch in the war with England. It then passed into the hands of the family of Carnegie of North Esk from it passed to that of Blair, whose heiress married the grandfather of the present Lord Gray. It is a modern building built on the site of an old baronial residence |
