The parish of Kincardine is in Presbytery of Dunblane, Synod of Perth and Stirling. Patron Lady Willoughby de Eresby.
The parish is near the middle of the southern verge of Perthshire. It consists of two parts which are separated from each other by the southern part of the parish of Kilmadock. The main body of the parish is bounded on the west, north, and north east, by Kilmadock parish; on the east, by Lecropt in Perth and Stirlingshire; and on the south, by the parishes of St. Ninians and Gargunnock in Perthshire. The detached portion is bounded on the west, by Port of Monteith parish, on the north and east by Kilmadock parish; and on the south by the parish of Gargunnock in Stirlingshire. The surface of the parish consists, over two thirds of its extent which stretch upwards from the Forth, of carse lands, and over the remaining third on the north of Dryfield; and is almost everywhere nearly a dead level, or has at least a very gentle slope toward the streams. But it presents a series of grounds beautifully cultivated, well enclosed, and adorned on the Teith side with the affluent and wooded demense of Blair Drummond; and lying in the widest part of the Strath of Monteith, screened in the distance, on every side with lofty hills. The soil of the dryfield district is a light loam, formerly studded with numerous nodules of whinstone and a few of plumbcake stone, which greatly obstructed tillage like they were blown with gunpowder and removed. The soil of the carse district is a rich blue clay, lying upon a bed of gravel, which comes near the surface at the northern extremity, and thence dips at the rate of one foot in a hundred toward the Forth, allowing a great average depth to the superincumbent clay. At various depths, the carse has many thin

The nearest market town is Stirling 6 miles distant The parish contains 10662 Statute Acres. Of this the main body of the parish contains 7019 Acres and the Detached part 3643 Statute Acres. |

A circular trench, is the only remains of this Tumulus. it is about 37 yds. The fact of urns having been found in it would point to its being of the Roman period.
The following is copied from the Statistical Account. "There is a Tumulus near Blair Drummond, East Lodge, in which, on being opened, some fragments of Urns and human bones were found. It is surrounded by a circular foss from which it has been formed, and is vulgarly called Wallace's Trench. It is 63 yards in circumference and 5 feet in height from the bottom of the fosse. The history of Sir William Wallace brings him, after having burned the Peel (a stronghold) of Gurgunnock, across the Forth to this very point, by a road which led across the Moss of Kincardine to a ford in the Teith, where, in the ordinary state of the river, it is fordable. |

A Chapel of Ease in the village of Norrieston, it is a plain stone building seated to accomadate 870 persons.
"The Chapel of Ease at Norriestoun stands in this parish, and is four miles distant from the parish church, Gabriel Norrie of Norriestoun, a descendant of the ancient family of the Norries in this parish gave the church-yard and the site of the church there, upwards of 170 years ago, for a burying ground and a place of worship in connection with the Established Church of Scotland. The minister of this chapel receives his stipend from the rent of the lands which were purchased by public and private collections, which were made by the authority of the General Assembly. The Presbytery of Dunblane are appointed by the Assembly to manage this fund called the Norriestoun fund, with authority to let the lands, keep in repair the farm buildings, pay the public burdens, and the stipend of the minister at Norriestoun. The stipend varies from £80 to £95 per annum according to the state of the buildings and the amount of rent the land produces. He has, in addition to this sum, six acres of glebe, a garden, and also a good house, but the house, like the farm buildings, is built and kept in repair out of the rent of the land"

This Church was partially re-built and thoroughly repaired in 1812. |

[Note:]
This Church has been referred to the examiner as it appears to have all the qualifications
of a Quoad Sacra Church being a separate living having an ecclesiastical district annexed to it.
But the Ministers of Norrieston, Kincardine, and Kilmadock assert that it is not a Quoad Sacra Church.
They further state that in 1834 it was made a Quoad Sacra Church by the General Assembly,
but the Civil Court disallowed it. A more recent attempt was made to erect it into
a Quoad Sacra Church under Sir James Graham's Act, but this failed also.
