115 ; 124 ; 125 ; 131 ; 132 The parish of Kilmadock is in the Presbytery of Dunblane, Synod of Perth and Stirling Patron Lady Willoughby de Eresby It is near the middle of the Southern verge of Perthshire and is bounded on the north, by a detached part No. 4 of Monzievaird and Strowan parish; on the east and south east, by the parishes of Dunblane, Lecropt, and Kincardine; on the south by Stirlingshire; and on the west, by a detached part of Kincardine, and by Port of Monteith, and Callander parishes
The soil exhibits every variety, from the richest carse clay on the plains of the Forth, to the poorest heath clad moor on the hills of the north. The whole of the Teith, the Carsegrounds on the South, And much of the other Sections, are well enclosed and highly cultivated. Various roads intersecting one another, traverse the southern division of the parish; two run up the Vale of the Teith, one on each side of the river, leading the way from Stirling to the gorgeous Scenery of the Trossachs and Loch Katrine on the one hand, and to that of Loch Earn and Loch Tay on the other; but no road invites the access of a wheeled vehicle beyond the second ridge of the parish, or toward the Braes of Doune.
There are no detached portions of this parish nor are there any detached portions of another parish situated within it. It consists of about 24782 statute acres.
The ancient parish Church having become ruinous, a new church was built in the town of Doune, in the year 1756; since which period, the parish has been frequently called Doune, and having its ancient Market Cross it is therefore considered, in this Name Book as the principal
