New Stat. Acct. [Statistical Account]
109 This name applies to a tract or district of country, through which the river Earn runs. Its length is nearly 40 miles extending almost due east and west from the head of Loch Earn to the mouth of the River Earn below Perth. Its mean breadth including its flanking heights is computed to be about between 6 and 8 miles, but the real breadth of the Strath or valley is not quite so much in some places not half the breadth. The parishes which are wholly or partly included in this valley or Strath are the following viz. Comrie, Monivaird &, Strowan, Crieff, Trinity Gask, Gask, Muthill, Blackford, Auchterader, Dunning, Forteviot, Aberdalgie, Forgandenny, Dunbarnie, Abernethy, and Rhynd

The name of this district or Strath has not been written on the
plans of this parish nor on the adjoining ones as it was considered
doubtful whether it ought to have been written on the plans of
the 1/2500 scale, but as there can be no doubt it should appear
on the one Inch map it is now inserted in Name Book.
There are many similar Straths throughout Scotland of
very undefined boundaries which if not written on the plans
of the larger scale, ought at least be written on the one Inch maps.
These districts together with the districts occupied by the
different Highland Clans with the names of respective Clans with the names f the respective
Clans and also the Roman Roads the latter of which
cannot be traced with sufficient accuracy to admit
of being inserted on the large scale
could all be inserted on the
one Inch maps with advantage
to the public. [Signed] C.N. Martin Capt. R E [Captain Royal Engineers]
