A small parish situated about 8 miles S.W. [South West] of the town of Perth. It is bounded by the following parishes - Dunning on the south, Madderty and Methven on the north. Tibbermore & Forteviot on the east, and by Trinity Gask on the west. It consists of arable land with one or two plantations. The Houses are generally in good repair, chiefly one storey, and are nearly all slated. The chief proprietors are the trustees of the late James Blair-oliphant Esq of GasK. |

The parish of Findo Gask is in the Presbytery of Auchterarder, and Synod of Perth and Stirling; it contains about 5227 Statute Acres The parish produces wheat, barley, oats, pease, potatoes, turnips, sown and pasture grass. It supports itself with all Kinds of grain, independent of considerable quantities which are sold, and there are more than 1200 acres of wood, consisting of larch, Scotch fir, oak, &c, which abound with all sorts of game. There are no detached portions of this parish, nor, are there any detached portions of another parish situated within it. |

This applies to a small portion of the great strath of that name which occurs in this parish. It extends from the confluence of the Cowgask Burn with the Pow Water on the west, to about 20 chains above the farmsteading of Muirhead on the south, running east after that along the Statute Labor Road leading from that farm into the parish of Tibhermore. On the north of the Pow Water; it, will join the boundy. [boundary] lines dividing Glen Almond, Logie Almond, &c. [etc.] and take in the villages of Methven & Almond Bank. |

"The place, from time immemorial, has been called the "Witch Knowe," and the traditionary account is, that witches were burned there, and, as vestiges of coal cinders are to be seen, the probability is that, some people were put to death on that eminence. The examiner states, in answer to remarks "that this chapel was built by the late Mr. Oliphant of Gask House for the performance of the Episcopalian service; but was never licensed nor consecrated. That Mr. Oliphant's widow, who is a Presbyterian, has the Divine Service of that communion performed in it, and, for the accommodation of visitors, on some few occasions, the Episcopal Service also. Therefore under these circumstances, and as it is a private chapel belonging to no particular denomination, it will be written on the plans as shewn above. |

You were requested to supply
Authorities for the parish name Gask
or Findogask and you have sup-
plied three but you have not given
the parish Minister the Sessions Clerk
nor any one of the parochial Registers
Now the Minister and parochial
Registers should not be omitted
in the Authorities for the parish name
therefore as this name is written diffe
rently as given above you will supply
the Authorities and where there is a
different mode of spelling the name in
the Register give the date of it.

I have submitted this name
to the Minister, and School
-master of the parish of Gask,
and both state, that in all
official communications, or
documents connected with
the parish, it is written "Findo-
"Gask"; but "Gask", is the name by
which it is most frequently
designated by those residing
in the locality of the parish.
The Schoolmaster, who is
the Parish Registrar and Session
Clerk; states, that Findo-Gask
is written on all the parish
records - Such as the Register
General's documents, Sheriff's
communications, and, on all
parochial papers &c &c.
