125 ; 126 ; 132 The parish of Dunblane is supposed to take its name from St. Blane, a Culdee, and Holme Hill, an eminence or dun overlooking the Cathedral; it is in the Presbytery of Dunblane, Synod of Perth and Stirling.
The Parish contains 18,635 Statute Acres and is bounded on the East and North East by the parishes of Alva, Blackford, and Ardoch, on the North by the parish of Muthill and a detached part No. 4 of Monzievaird and Strowan, on the West by the Parish of Kilmadock and on the South by the parishes of Lecropt and Logie.
Stirling is the nearest market town to Dunblane distant about 5½ miles and the only other village in the parish is that of Kinbuck.
The Sheriff Substitute of the Western district of Perthshire resides in Dunblane. Connected with his Court there are a Sheriff Clerk, Procurator Fiscal and four other practising attorneys. There are no detached portions of Dunblane in any other Parish, nor is there a detached portion of any Parish in Dunblane.
