"The Sculptured Stones of North Britain
may be divided into three classes:
1st. Religious Monuments; 2nd Monuments of
Events; and, 3rd. Funeral Monuments.
Of the first class, are the upright stones,
which stand, in a cultivated field, near
Cargill; and wheron are carved the Moon
and Stars. The field, wherein those vast
stones stand conspicuous, is still called the Moonshade
