Mr. Donald McGowan the tenant of the Dreadnought is also tenant of this Hotel, consequently the posting establishments of both are amalgamated. It possesses excellent accommodation for travellers. This is one of the oldest houses in the village and was originally known as the Star Inn, but an addition being made to its height a number of years since by Mr. McGregor, it has ever since been known by his name. 115 | Previous to 1773, the date of erection of the present parish church, this was used as such, and likewise as a school during the week, but subsequently it was allowed to go to ruin and is now totally removed. It is supposed to have been originally a Roman Catholic Chapel, but as tradition is completely silent respecting it, no authentic information can be gained concerning it. |
