052 A number of small swellings or Cairns grown over with grass. Mr Chalmers pointed them out, and says they are of the same description as those that were removed in the adjoining field, he also believes them to be sepulchral cairns, as those already trenched out. Contained amongst the stones a blackish kind of rich mould resembling charcoal. Mr. Soutar & Mr Anderson, Bankers believes them to be sepulchral monuments. They are in possession of a number of coins which had been found in the district of Mause amongst the Cairns.

052 In a Muir a short distance N.W. [North West] is another Cairn resembling those in the field. The general tradition in the locality is, that a great Battle had been fought betwixt the Romans & Caledonians in this district, supposed to be that of Mons Grampus - for farther information see the adjoining N. [Name] Sheets for this parish.
