052 "A considerable tributary of the River Ericht. It is formed by the union of two streams, - one descending from the Grampians, in the East Forest of Athole, through Glen Fernal, - and the other flowing from the west through Glen Brerachan, these streams unite at Tulloch, & assume the name of the Ardle which flows through Strathardle in the parish of Kirkmichael & unites with the Black Water about ½ Mile below the Bridge of Cally. The two united streams form the River Ericht. The total course of the Ardle is about 13 miles."

052 "A long bold Highland glen watered by the Ardle. It extends from Tulloch in Moulin, 10½ miles South, Southeastward to the confluence of the Ardle & Black Water, & comprehends a small part of Moulin & Kinloch parishes, & large parts of Kirkmichael & Blairgowrie. Its mean breadth measured between the summit lines, or watersheds of its hill screens, is nearly 5 miles, but measured between the bases of its declivities is very inconsiderable" Fullarton's Gazetteer
