063 A considerable Lake a great part of which is grown over with reeds, and in it is a small island with 3 old Scotch fir trees and some bushes growing on it.

063 In the centre of it [Stormont Loch] is an oblong hollow surrounded with a dike or rampart of stones and earth which Mr Robertson says is traditionally handed down as having been a place for smuggling contraband goods. The Rev. Dr. [Reverend Doctor] Barty of Bendochy beleives this to be remains of an ancient Castle.
"There is a small island in one of the Lochs, on which the traces of a building are still to be discerned, and tradition states that in times of peril the inhabitants of the surrounding district removed their most valuable effects to this island for safety. Whence the loch derived its name of the Stormount or Storemount". New Stat. Acct. [Statistical Account] ? Stour a battle O.S.[A]
The district lying between this loch, and Dunkeld is well known by the name of Stormont.
