074 | A large and comparatively modern village, erected for the accommodation of the persons employed at the adjacent Cotton Mills, The village consists of two Churches, two Schools, an Inn, Post Office and a number of Shops, together with ordinary dwellings, the buildings are nearly all two stories high, but in consequence of the suspension of work at the Cotton Mills many of them are untenanted and falling into a ruinous state. The portion of the village north of Percy Street is not recognised as Stanley proper, but is named the Feus, and is altogether independent of connection with the Cotton Mills. Stanley proper is the property of Samuel Howard Esqr. Balthayock. |
