111 [Situation] A few chains E. [East] of Carpow House
This site was pointed out by Mr. Patterson the proprietor as being the place where the Roman Camp once stood and states that when he was a boy there were distinct traces of a trench to be seen in the park adjoining the house of Carpow on the eastern side and extending northwards from the remains of buildings Shewn on trace and there was a mound of earth near the Trig'. [Trigonometry] Station in the park on the east side. and he states that his father (who is dead some years) Considered these remains as vestiges of the Roman Camp and the general or current tradition of the neighbourhood Corroborates this statement, Andrew Scott of Netherfield of Gattaway who is 76 years of age and whose ancestors lived in the parish for Several generations past corroborates the Statement of Mr. Patterson and all the authorities quoted for the name speak of it much to the same effect However there are no vestiges now remaining except the remains of buildings as shewn on trace.
