An Extensive Open Valley extending from near the shepherds House called Stobo Hope, Northwards to the Cottage Called Stobo Hopehead and thence to the Broughton Heights where it opens out into a very open Valley of a Somewhat Circular Shape. It is encircled by Very high Ridges of Hills except where the Ridges are Crossed by Bridle Roads. There are Several Small Streams flowing through this Valley, which form Hopehead Burn Southwards to where Margate Burn joins and thence to the River Tweed it is called Weston Burn. |

This is the Remains of an ancient Hill Fort or Camp, it is Composed of loose Stones, Rocks & Earth and Commanded the Junction of the three Valleys in Connection with the Surrounding Camp. It was formed of three Ramparts, the West side being Very Steep and precipitious required only two, which appears to have been Very strong, the Remains are in Very good preservation, and its situation is on the top of Dreva Craig. |

This name applies to a large Stone in the Wall at the Road side near the Farm to which it gives name. It is of a somewhat cylindrical shape, about five feet high & six feet in diameter. The top forms a plane smooth surface and it is supposed to have formed the Altar of a druids Temple or some such object. It is, however, only a supposition, there is no Tradition respecting it. It is always Called the Altar Stone, but why it is so called the Proprietor of the Estate says, Cannot be ascertained. |
