A Parish in County of Peebles, bounded on the North by the Parishes of Kirkurd, Newlands & Lyne, on the East by Peebles and Manor; on the south by Drummelzier and Glenholm and on the West by Broughton and Kilbucho, its greatest length is 7 Miles and greatest breadth about 5¾ Miles, the superficial area about 12,580 Acres, Scotch, about 1/7 of which is cultivated and the remainder under Wood and pasture for sheep, being very hilly, with several streams having their sources in them; the principal being the Weston Burn which with the others fall into the River Tweed and runs through the South East portion of the Parish; the Waters of Biggar & Lyne bound it on the East & West side The Turnpike Road from Edinburgh to Moffat passes through it. On Sherriffmuir there are two large stone 3 feet in height and 6 feet distant from each other, which are supposed to Mark the grave of some Chief who had there fallen in Battle. There are also two Cairns of stones on this Muir, and single stones about a foot in height planted at Regular distances which some suppose to have been [continued on page 4]

[Parish] of Stobo. A large tract of ground the greater part being uncultivated, a small portion of it the east side being cultivated: it is said to have derived its name from the circumstance of the Sheriff-depute, during the time of disputes between England and Scotland, being accustomed to summon the Tweeddale Militia for drill; it was used also during the Peninsula War for drilling the Tweeddale Yeoman[ry &] Cavalray; on one part of it, there are two standing stones about 3 feet high and 6 feet apart supposed to mark the grave of some chief killed in battle, any further information concerning it could not be obtained in the locality: it is the property of Sir Graham Montgomery.

Two stones each about 3 feet in height and standing six feet apart, which tradition says were erected over the grave of some distinguished hero who fell in battle here.
