008 | [Situation] Adjoining the farm-house of Drochil Drochill Castle is a large spacious ruin, (built in a castellated style but merely intended for a private residence,) three storeys high having the whole of the outer walls nearly entire and the rooms on the ground flat having vaulted roofs the whole of which are remaining excepting a large room which runs from end to end through the centre of the building the ceiling of which is entirely demolished; there is a large circular turret on the N. E. [North East] corner and another on the S.W. [South West] corner. There was a stone over one of the doors which bears the following inscription viz. [videlicet, namely] [Continued on page 30] |
