A Spring-well adjoining the farm-house of the same name -- From the Careful manner in which this Spring has been preser [preserved] - being built in And Enclosed it was doubtless formerlay resorted to for religious purp [purposes] The names in the neighbourh [neighbourhood] favour this Supposition - & "Spittalhaugh" And "Chapel" [Wood] A Considerable portion of the lands in this district belonged to the Knights Tem [Templar] And it is probable that this well was Connected in some of their religious establishments. Certain it i [is] that it has always been Known as "Pauls We [Well]" the prefix "Saint" having probably fallen into desuet [desuetude] No account, written or otherwise can be found to throw Any light on the history of this Spring
