A large pump well on the S [South] s [side] of the Street, nearly opposite the Post Office, It is so called from [a] large stone Cross being erected On it about 200 years ago by a person of the name of Giffard. then a resid [resident] of the Village. and who in Order to perpetuate the Memory of his wife ca [carved] her likeness On the Stone Cross with two Children On each side of her, The Cross, some time ago was Knocked off its position And broken, And has never since been Replaced
