A Parish in the County of Peebles bounded on the North, North East and North West by Edinburgh County on the East & South East by the Parish of Newlands on the South by Kirkurd and on the South West and west by the County of Lanark. its greatest length from Bore Stane in the North to the Confluence of the Dean Burn and Tarth Water on the South is about 10¼ Miles and its greatest breadth from East to West about 7½ Miles with a Superficial area of 25.400 Acres about 1/5 of which being Cultivated and under Wood while the Remainder is Uncultivated, but affording tolerable good pasturage for Sheep. the Turnpike Road from Edinburgh to Dumfries, by Biggar passes through it from what can be collected, from the different accounts published of this Parish very few matters worthy of engaging the attention of the Antiquarian has been brought to light -- The Market Town of Linton is the only place of Any Consequence in the Parish, where two fairs are held Yearly for the sale of Sheep which are well Attended Coal and Limestone Abound over a great part of it, a mineral Spring called "Heaven Aqua" resembling the [Continued on page 4]
