002 | [Situation] At the N E [North East] Side of the parish of Linton A large sheet of water On the boundary between the Counties of Edinburgh and Peebles, near the source of the North Esk. It was made for the purpose of supplying the different Mills on the banks of the North Esk from there to Dalkeith with water. in dry seasons or when theres not a sufficient supply to be found in the river for such a purpose The greatest depth of water at the front of the embankment is 52 feet, And is not allowed to decrease lower than 20 feet, less the fish which abound in great numbers in the Reservoir would be destroyed. The Reservoir was made under the Superintendance of the Messrs Stephenson. (Engineers) and is the property of the North Esk Reservoir Company |
