"Several stones of a circular form are standing in the neighbourhood of Old
Harestanes Supposed to have been erected by the Druids for religious purposes". -- New Stat. Acct. [Statistical[Account] of Linlithgowshire page 129

"Hairstanes so named perhaps from a few erect Stones arranged circularly is said
to have been a place for religious worship. In the immediate neighbourhood is the Kirkdean
and Temple lands." -- Old Stat. Acct. [Statistical Account] vol. [volume] 10 page 186

"The British people have also left here many Druid remains which the Saxons
destroyed in Lothian. At Hairstanes in Kirkurd parish there are the remains of a
druid Temple or oratory Consisting of a number of large stones Standing in a circular
form. Tradition Still Speaks of the Hairstanes as a place of worship rather than the scene
