A Parish in the County of Peebles. bounded on the North and North East by the Parishes of Pennycuick and Temple, on the South and South West by the Parishes of Peebles & Lyne, on the South East by the Parish of Innerleithen. It is 10 miles in length from North to South and 7 miles from East to West, its greatest breadth is at the Southern extremity and it gradually contracts as it approaches the North when its breadth does not exceed 2 miles. The Superficial Area is about 21.250 acres about ¼ of which is Cultivated, while the remainder is under pasture for Sheep and black Cattle. There are the remains of three Ancient Circular Forts, one of them is Very entire upon the farm of Norshield, the other two upon the farms of Milkiestone and Wormiston. The Church was rebuilt in 1829 and Contains Accommodation for 420 persons. Lord Elibank is Patron. There are no detached portions of this parish nor are there any detached portions of other parish within this parish
