A Parish in the County of Peebles bounded on the North West by Stobo, on the North by Manor and on the East by Manor and Lyne on the South by Tweedsmuir on the West by Glenholm and Lanarkshire. Its extreme length from South West to North East is about 13 1/2 Miles, while in breadth it Varies from 1 to 5 Miles, about 1/8 is under Cultivation, the remainder is mostly Sheep Pasturage; the only River of any consequence is the Tweed which runs along the West and North Sides of it. No Mines or Mineral worthy of notice has been as yet discovered in it. There are traces of a Road along the Summit of Creape Mountain supposed to be Roman which probably Connected the Camp at Lyne with the great Road which Ran from Carlisle to Falkirk, there are also the Remains of Two Old Castles in the Parish |
