[North West] from Mitchelhill A large, and nearly Circular encampment on the farm of Mitchelhill, at the Eastern extremity of the White Hill It was surrounded by two. ditches (Most of which remain to be seen,) together with an inner wall seemingly composed of loose stones, The stones of the wall were taken away for the purpose of building dikes This place (together with others of a similar nature in this neighbourhood is supposed to have been places of defence, used by the inhabitants in the time of the Border warfare, where they could with safety, defend themselves and property, from the attacks of the Border Marauders and Moss Troopers |
